Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about Claim To Fame Racing, our funds, our horses, and the investor experience. Have a question that is not answered here? Email Kevin directly.

1.What is Claim To Fame Racing?

Claim To Fame Racing is a horse racing investment platform that gives investors fractional ownership in a portfolio of elite thoroughbred racehorses. Our horses are managed by experienced trainers and compete primarily at Emerald Downs in Auburn, Washington. Investors share in the experience and economics of thoroughbred ownership without needing to buy a horse outright.

2.How does fractional thoroughbred ownership work?

Each Claim To Fame Racing fund acquires a curated portfolio of horses through purchase or leasing arrangements. Investors purchase ownership units that give them a pro rata interest in the fund. As the horses race, breed, or are sold, proceeds flow back to the fund. Investors share in any returns proportional to their ownership.

3.Where do your horses race?

Our horses race primarily at Emerald Downs in Auburn, Washington, the largest thoroughbred racetrack in the Pacific Northwest. Depending on the horse and conditions, our team may also enter horses at other regional tracks across the western United States.

4.Who trains your horses?

Our horses are trained by Mike Puhich, a longtime Pacific Northwest trainer with deep experience developing thoroughbreds at Emerald Downs. Mike works directly with the Claim To Fame Racing team on every aspect of horse selection, conditioning, race entries, and recovery.

5.What is the minimum investment?

Investment minimums vary by fund. Claim To Fame Racing structures each fund around its own terms, including unit pricing, minimum participation, and distribution structure, giving us the flexibility to serve a range of investors. Reach out to discuss what level of participation fits you.

6.What kind of access do investors get to the horses?

Investors can book stable visits at Emerald Downs every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 1:00 PM. Each visit includes 30 minutes per group with the horses, plus a 30-minute Q&A with our trainer. On race weekends, investors can also book post-race visits to see the horses after they have competed. Box seat requests for individual race days can be made directly through the investor portal.

7.Are international investors welcome?

Yes. We have investors from both the United States and Canada, and we accommodate the additional tax and reporting requirements that come with cross-border partnerships. International investors receive the same level of access and information as US investors.

8.How and when do investors receive returns?

Returns to investors are tied to actual performance and economics of the underlying portfolio. Sources of return can include race purses, breeding fees, and proceeds from horse sales. Distributions are made on a schedule defined by each fund and are paid in proportion to ownership, after operating expenses and reserves. Investors should expect this to be a long-term, risk-bearing investment, not a short-term return.

9.What happens if a horse gets injured or underperforms?

Horse racing carries inherent risk. Injuries, illness, and underperformance can all impact a horse's career and the fund's returns. The Claim To Fame Racing team works closely with veterinarians and our training team to manage health, recovery, and retirement decisions. Funds maintain operating reserves to cover unexpected costs, and we communicate transparently with investors about any material developments.

10.How will I stay informed about my investment?

Every approved investor gets access to our private investor portal at claimtofameracing.com. The portal includes performance and progression updates, a calendar of race days and events, photo and video archives of educational days and race events, visit booking, box seat requests, and detailed information about each horse in the portfolio. We also send regular email updates from the team.

11.Are there tax benefits to thoroughbred ownership?

Thoroughbred ownership has very specific tax treatment in the United States, including bonus depreciation rules and special asset classifications. Tax outcomes vary based on each investor's individual situation. We work with horse-racing-specialist accountants and recommend our investors do the same. Claim To Fame Racing does not provide tax advice.
